An after-school club for young people that will end due to council funding cuts had a Christmas party for staff and children yesterday afternoon (Wednesday).

The Rolling Base provided educational and fun activities for children between the ages of nine and 13, with activities including arts and crafts, mixing music, creating videos and sport.

The service started in February last year at schools across Hertsmere, including Little Reddings in Bushey, through 513 funding by Hertfordshire County Council.

The council awarded more than £3 million to 42 projects, including the Rolling Base, in October 2008.

It will hold its last session on December 21.

Rolling Base project co-ordinator Charlie Westone, from Borehamwood, has been working for the service since March.

She said: “We have done 74 sessions and catered for 2,500 children and it’s all for free, which is great for parents.

“The kids love the activities and we are so happy they are here for this party.

“Funding cuts happen and we can’t do anything about it. The funding the council gave was thousands of pounds and we hope there will be some way of carrying this service on in the future.

“I want to thank all the people who worked to make this a great group and we hope we will find some funding from somewhere.”
