A Watford FC supporter has released a football-themed song to raise money for charity this Christmas.

Chris Ambrose, 23, from Church Road, Watford, has been a Watford season ticket holder for more than ten years.

He has a been a regular visitor at the stadium in Vicarage Road since his dad started taking him to games at a young age.

He has played the guitar since the age of eight and, since studying Music and Record Production at University, has been writing and recording tracks in the comfort of his own home.

The idea to write the song, "Come on You 'Orns!", came to Chris while watching the disappointing match against Scunthorpe back in late October this year. The crowd was unusually subdued, which got Chris thinking about football chants, and what makes a good song for a football crowd.

He said: “It was the concept of writing 'catchy' guitar pop songs that I decided to take into a football match environment. By putting together the different elements that I consider to be integral parts of an appealing guitar-pop song, 'Come On You 'Orns' was formed.”

When asked about his musical influences, he said: “It's tricky. I enjoy a wide range of music, from 60s bands such as The Kinks, to 90s Brit rock. The music I write tends to come out as pop melodies and hook lines.”

The former Rickmansworth School pupil wrote the basics of his song in a matter of minutes, and by mid-November had shot an accompanying video that was posted on Youtube.

After some positive feedback, the club became involved and encouraged Chris to release the track as a download single.

His song will be played at the home game against Cardiff on Tuesday, December 28.

It is available now to buy online from iTunes and Amazon, and all money raised will be going to the Watford Peace Hospice.

Chris said: “As the song had a strong local theme, I thought it would only be right to choose a local charity.”
