Watford charity The Peace Hospice has got off to a good start in 2011, by opening its 11th shop in south west Herts.

The shop, in Rickmansworth High Street, will sell a wide variety of new and used things including clothes, homeware, bric-a-brac and a media section.

Today's grand opening comes just a few months after the opening of a “flagship store” in Watford, which started trading in November.

The charity's head of trading, Jo Martin, said: “We are really pleased that we’ve been able to open both our Rickmansworth and Watford shops within such a short period of time.

“Both outlets are already proving popular with customers, and there are plenty of bargains on offer.”

The sales from the charity's shops generate more than 50 percent of the £3.1 million of charitable money needed to run the Hospice each year.

Bargain hunter Christine Thomas queued up outside the shop today, waiting for it to open.

She said: “I’ve bought a few things this morning, there’s a nice range of goods on offer. I’ll certainly be back in the coming days.

“This shop really is an asset to Rickmansworth. It’s well laid out and I think it will bring a lot of people in. This is a local charity shop, supporting local people.”

The shop was officially opened by the Chairman of Three Rivers District Council, councillor Ron Spellen and his wife, Nena Spellen.
