A counselling service for victims of rape or sexual abuse can send volunteers on a training course, following a grant by a Hertfordshire County Councillor.
Councillor Nigel Bell (Labour, Vicarage Holywell) donated £1,000 to the Watford Rape Crisis and Sexual Abuse Centre to help meet the cost of a certified training course for new support workers.
The centre offers free and confidential counselling service to women from the Watford and Three Rivers area who have been raped or sexually abused at some time in their lives.
It currently has a growing waiting list and more trained volunteers are needed to respond to demand.
Councillor Bell said: “I think it’s very important that an organisation like the Watford Rape Crisis and Sexual Abuse Centre, which does such vital and important work, should receive the funding it needs to carry on.
“It’s important that we don’t forget key centres like this, as their efforts often go unpublicised.”
A total of £10,000 is available to each of the 77 members of Hertfordshire County Council to spend on worthwhile community projects in their area.
