Schoolchildren in Bushey joined schools across the country in trying to break a singing world record on Wednesday.

About 375 pupils, from Bushey Manor Junior School and Bushey and Oxhey Infant School, joined an attempt to break the Guinness World Record for the most people singing a song, with actions, at one time.

It is thought about 30,000 children across the UK will have joined the attempt, singing I'd Like to Teach the World to Sing, by The New Seekers, at exactly 2.45pm.

Aaron Wanford, Year 2 teacher at Bushey and Oxhey Infants, said: "The current record is 13,000 people, and we're hopeful we have beaten it this year. The children have really enjoyed it - they have been really enthusiastic."

Beaconsfield-born New Seekers bassist, Paul Layton, visited Bushey Manor to see how the children got on, though the results of the record attempt will not be announced by Guinness officials for a few weeks.

The attempt was organised by charity Sign Health, which provides healthcare for deaf people in the UK.

Donations were taken by pupils shaking buckets at the school entrance.

Year 1 teacher at Bushey and Oxhey Infants, Rebecca Walsh, said: "It has been really fun and will be wonderful if we break the record."
