Watford striker Liam Henderson has admitted he would be interested in an extended stay at Rotherham United after completing a loan move to the League Two promotion contenders.

Henderson has joined Rotherham on an initial month loan but has not ruled out a permanent switch to the Millers.

"I will have to see how it goes but I would be interested in an extended stay," Henderson told Rotherham’s official site.

"You never know with football, it could turn into something permanent but in the short term I just want to get some games in and help the club as much as possible."

Henderson, whose current loan runs until March 18, is eligible to make his debut against Accrington Stanley tonight and travelled up to South Yorkshire today.

Watford manager Malky Mackay stated Henderson would play for the Reserves last night less than two hours before kick-off but the 21-year-old was withdrawn due to the loan switch.

“I was sat in the dressing room after a Reserve game last night and the manager took me to one side and said that Rotherham were interested,” Henderson continued.

“As soon as I had heard of the interest I was more than happy to join the club. I now just want to get out and play as soon as possible and show the fans what I can do."

The Watford Academy graduate has yet to score a goal in the Football League in 40 appearances, although only four of those were starts.

But the Newcastle-born striker is hoping he can strike up a partnership with Rotherham’s highly-rated Adam Le Fondre and impress.

Henderson said: "I am really looking forward to possibly playing up front with Adam.

"Obviously he is a proven goalscorer and I am looking forward to meeting him, and the rest of the team, and hopefully we can strike up a good understanding."

Henderson has not played for Watford this season and was expected to spend the second half of the campaign at Aldershot Town.

But five days after signing for the club, manager Kevin Dillon left the League Two side and his replacement, Dean Holdsworth, decided he did not want the striker.

So Henderson returned to Watford having played just once for Aldershot and could not be loaned out again until the end of January due to the previous loan agreement.

This will be Henderson’s fifth time away from Watford after loan spells at non-league Wealdstone, Hartlepool United, Colchester United and Aldershot Town.

Henderson will need to impress at Rotherham as his contract with Watford runs out in the summer, although the club do have the option of extending it by another year.
