Families cheering Watford FC's win against Millwall were forced to move seats when they became targets for hooligans.
Bottles, coins and even plastic seats were thrown at some sections of fans sharing the Vicarage Road stand with away supporters, who saw their team lose 1-0 to a Danny Graham goal on Saturday.
The goalscorer also had coins thrown at him and at one stage, gave a bottle to the match referee.
About 2,200 fans made the trip from south London to watch the match, which Watford manager Malky Mackay described as “one of the best wins of the season”.
Speaking about Graham being pelted with missiles from the stand, he said: “There were coins being rained on him and a bottle came on. It is unacceptable and it is not something we want to be involved in.”
The incident came after one Millwall supporter confronted Watford's Lloyd Doyley on the pitch during the reverse fixture at The New Den, which the Hornets won 6-1, last September.
