Visitors to a farm in Kings Langley were left enthralled by the sight of vintage tractors all colours and sizes, as part of an event organised to raise money for charity.
Taking advantage of the sunny weather, crowds gathered together at Wayside Farm on Sunday afternoon to appreciate the sight of the old-fashioned farm machinery in action and to enjoy a selection of food.
The event was organised by Dacorum Machinery and Steam Group to raise money for the Hospice of St Francis, which cares for terminally ill residents across the county.
Over the years the group has helped raise more than £30,000 for the hospice with their steam vehicle and tractor shows.
Alison Briant, hospice director of nursing, was one of many visitors who enjoyed a “plough-off” at the event– where people pay to hop on a tractor and plough a farmer’s field.
She said: ""It's not something I would usually do and it's the first time I have done something like it. I had two minutes of instructions and then I was away ploughing a field.
“The machines are old-fashioned with a lever to push so you can see the cutters going down in the soil.
“There were lots of people there and it was a really enjoyable sunny day - the smell of fresh earth was wonderful.
“Thanks to the enthusiasts for their amazing support for the hospice, it is such a vital charity and we all know someone who has had connections with it. It’s important to give as much to the cause as possible.”
Organisers confirmed that £370 was raised from the event.
