A man is in a critical condition after he was hit by a bus in Bushey yesterday evening (Wednesday).
The pedestrian, who is in his forties, was seriously injured, in Sparrows Herne, at the junction with Steeplands, at about 7.15pm.
Police closed Sparrows Herne, between the Steeplands junction and School Lane, while the man was rushed to a specialist trauma centre, at St Mary’s Hospital, in Paddington, London.
Due to the seriousness of the man's injuries, Doctor David Gaunt, accident and emergency consultant from Watford General Hospital, was called to the scene, as well as two ambulances.
The road was reopened at about 11pm, though officers carried out investigations at the scene until past midnight.
An eyewitness said he saw an Arriva bus, with a shattered windscreen on the passenger side.
DC Dee Rayner, from the road crash investigation unit, said: “This is a serious collision where the man has received life-threatening injuries.
“I am keen to hear from anyone who witnessed the collision or saw the pedestrian before the collision, and would ask them to get in touch with me.”
