A woman from Kings Langley has said her prayers have been answered, thanks to the generosity of the Salvation Army.

The Watford Observer reported last week how Rosemary Mayo Franklin, of Coniston Road, had had her mobility scooter stolen by thieves.

She explained how she had parked her scooter outside a house in the road at midday on Friday, March 11, but when she returned from her meeting at 3pm, it had disappeared.

The grandmother, who finds it difficult to walk after having a series of strokes over the years, said she had been left practically housebound following the theft.

But after reading about her plight in last week’s newspaper, the Watford branch of the Salvation Army has come to her rescue – by loaning her a mobility scooter.

David Pepper, 75, who has been a volunteer with the Salvation Army for the past 50 years, explained: “When I read about what had happened to Mrs Mayo Franklin I felt incredibly angry.

“Someone out there has intentionally deprived her of her means of transport, and for what reason?

“The Crookes family had donated a scooter to us shortly after the death of a relative - donations such as these are so important.

“At the Salvation Army we thought what better than to help out someone in need, someone like Mrs Mayo Franklin who could put the scooter to good use.

“It’s a long-term loan and we hope that it will make a difference to her life.”

According to Mrs Mayo Franklin, 67, the scooter, a Compass Discovery, is far superior to the one she had stolen.

She said: “It’s exactly the same colour, but it’s a lot more impressive than the one I had before.

“I didn’t think I’d be able to get a new one, they cost thousands of pounds and my home insurance doesn’t cover it.

“But thanks to the Salvation Army I’m no longer cooped up indoors and thanks to the Watford Observer for making all of this possible.

"My prayers have been answered.

“It’s at times like this you realise that something good can come out of something terrible.

“I can’t wait to take it out and about - in fact I’ll be venturing out to see some jazz tonight at the local social club.”
