Community volunteers and fundraisers from Bushey have been recognised at an awards ceremony.

Marion Gee, Jean Austin, and Maureen and Ron Price, were all handed prizes at the Hertsmere Borough Council Civic Awards Dinner, on Saturday.

The dedicated group were among a host of entries nominated by residents last year, and were picked by a panel of judges including Hertsmere Mayor Linda Silver.

Marion Gee initiated the Bushey Museum's education service to schools, when she began volunteering 15 years ago.

Hundreds of students in and around the borough visit the museum for Marion's talks, which are largely based on the Victorian era and World War II.

Hugh Lewis, of the museum, said: "She does a terrific amount of work on behalf of the museum and we're absolutely delighted it has been recognised."

Couple Marion and Ron Price were unable to attend the dinner, but were handed a joint award.

For the past nine years they have helped the council organise the annual dog show at the Bushey Festival.

Shaz Setoudeh, events project officer at Hertsmere Borough Council, said: "They have put lots of time and effort into supporting the show.

What really makes this couple special is that they put forward their own money to buy things and turn up no matter what the weather."

Cash raised through the show is divided between Great Ormond Street Children’s Hospital and dog rescue charities.

Jean Austin has raised thousands of pounds by single-handedly organising an annual charity lunch for the past nine years.

Rather than donate cash, Jean buys things for the charities, which have included the Peace Hospice, the North London Hospice, Keech Cottage Children’s Hospice, the Stanmore Orthopaedic Children’s Ward and Ronald McDonald House Charities.

Mayor Linda Silver, a friend of Jean's, speaking at this year's lunch, said: "She's the most amazing woman. The fact she organises everything single-handedly is remarkable."
