Football supporters visiting Vicarage Road will be asked to donate money in memory of a popular police officer.

PC Daniel Gibb, 25, died in March 2010 when his motorbike collided with a minibus in Bedfordshire.

The former St Catherine of Siena and St Michael’s Catholic High School pupil grew up in Garston and was a passionate Watford FC fan.

His police colleagues are preparing to ride from Lands End to John O’Groats to raise money for the Road Victims Trust.

And there will be a bucket collection outside Vicarage Road Stadium, before Watford’s match with Norwich next Tuesday, to receive donations for the same charity.

Cycling team member Sergeant Paul Cox said: “Daniel was an extremely popular and active member of the Police Territorial Support Group – he was a credit to his unit and the Metropolitan Police.

“The loss of a valued colleague has struck us all and as a tribute to him we are going to raise funds for the Road Victims Trust who have supported members of his family and fiancé.”

The charity, which is new to Hertfordshire, is now offering its free support services to the residents of the County affected by fatal road collisions.

Mayor Dorothy Thornhill added: “Unfortunately the tragedy of Daniel’s death brings into sharp focus both the number of deaths on our roads and the need to support families and individuals bereaved by road crashes.

“I fully support the work of the Trust and hope everyone at the game on Tuesday will be able to make a contribution so that the Road Victims Trust can continue to offer their unique service.”
