Bushey will have at least two new councillors after the May local elections, as two Liberal Democrats announce they are stepping down.

The deadline for nominations closed on Monday, but Councillor Anita Gamble (Bushey St James, Liberal Democrat) announced she will not be standing for re-election, after eight years of service.

She said: “I feel eight years is long enough. I've enjoyed it and found it very interesting, but I think I am past my sell-by-date and need to make room for younger people.”

The councillor added she would continue to be active within Bushey and wished her successor the best of luck.

Her husband and former Bushey St James councillor, Robert Gamble, will be standing for the Liberal Democrats in Aldenham West.

Kim Elliott, a former Bushey St James councillor, will be taking over from Anita Gamble to stand for the Liberal Democrats.

Bushey North will also have a new representative, as Liberal Democrat group leader, Councillor Roger Kutchinsky announced he will be stepping down.

He will instead be standing in Bushey Heath, to challenge Conservative representative, Councillor Paul Morris, for his seat.
