A pub hosted a traditional pie and mash supper to raise money for Watford Mencap’s Children’s Centre.
About 40 people sat down for dinner, completed with eel liquor, at The Load of Hay, in Pinner Road, Watford Heath last Wednesday, April 20.
The pub was decorated with flags and diners wore Union Jack hats.
Sam Farrelly, whose son attends Watford Mencap’s Children’s Centre, in St Albans Road, said: “Ever since the owners from the Load of Hay saw Watford Mencap’s Children’s centre on BBC Breakfast, they have been really supportive.
“As well as holding the pie and mash night, they also collect £5 every Saturday from the [lottery] Bonus Ball and have already filled up one collection tin.”
Mark, who has been joint owner of the pub for the last seven years, added: “We usually do themed nights, but this is the first time that we have done a Pie and Mash night. The crowd who come in here are really generous and always support the charity nights we put on.”
Lauren McEvoy, fundraiser for Watford Mencap, said: “We really appreciated the support, not only does this event raise money for our children’s centre it also raises awareness throughout the local community.”
