A charity that supports young women and parents will launch a new project to expand its antenatal and postnatal care.

During the last year, GirlAbout has run antenatal courses exclusively for parents aged under-21 with their experienced childbirth educator.

The courses aim to provide young parents with a safe, non-judgemental and friendly environment where they can find information and develop skills that help with their final stages of pregnancy and labour.

GirlAbout has now developed this project and expanded the support to new young parents.

From next Monday, May 3, a postnatal course for parents under 21 will run alongside the antenatal course.

The course will run for six weeks on Tuesdays from 12pm to 1.30pm.

Any parent who is 21 or under and has had a baby between January 1 and April 30 is welcome to come along. Partners are also welcome.

Funding for the course has been provided by Berrygrove and Sunshine Children’s Centres.

The next antenatal course will also start on the Tuesday and will run for six weeks from 10.30am to 12pm.

This course is funded by the High Sheriff’s Crimebeat Award 2011, which GirlAbout won in March for their work with young people.

Both courses will be held at GirlAbout’s centre, The Barn, in Watford town centre. For more information and to register your interest, email admin@girlabout.co.uk or telephone 01923 232179.
