Wedding fever hit Clements Road in Chorleywood as 150 residents and their friends joined in the Royal wedding celebrations with a street party.

Guests seated around two long tables enjoyed a buffet lunch, street entertainment, a children’s play area and a raffle with prizes donated by residents on Friday.

The event was organised by Christina and George Doyle, who fired up a huge barbecue in their front garden, while other residents pitched in with the food preparation, borrowed tables and chairs from their local school, supplied a PA system for the music and arranged a gazebo in a nearby garden where children had their faces painted with Union Jacks.

The road was closed for much of the day and residents decorated the street with bunting and other red, white and blue memorabilia.

Mrs Doyle said: “It was wonderful to be able to do something which involved the whole community – and we were so lucky with the weather.”

Residents said the event had gone so well they were now looking forward to the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee next year.
