Watford Borough Council elected a new chairman last night as the former ceremonial leader celebrated a job well done.

Councillor Lindsey Scudder was formally nominated by her peers last night to lead the council through the next year. She will represent the authority at numerous public events, when she will frequently be escorted by her husband and consort Derek.

Councillor Scudder, who last night accepted the ceremonial chain of office at Watford Town Hall, will also raise money for two local charities – Shopmobility Watford and Watford Mencap.

She has been a governor at several local schools and became a ward councillor for Tudor Ward in 2002.

Last year’s chairman, Councillor Alan Burtenshaw, has presented more than £2,000 the Sea Lion Swimming Club and Watford New Hope Trust.
