MAYOR of Watford Dorothy Thornhill has received an MBE in the Queen's Birthday Honours.

The town's elected mayor received the accolade for her services to local government in Watford.

An OBE was awarded to Mrs Meena Modi, who is the headteacher of Chater Infant School in Southsea Road, Watford.

Mrs Modi, who will retire this summer, is married to Kirit, who also held senior roles in education before retiring.

Chater Infant School was found to be "outstanding" by Ofsted at its last inspection.

Dr Roger Neighbour, of Abbots Langley, was also awarded an OBE for services to medical education.

Dr Neighbour is a primary care educator in London.

Dr Philip Willoughby, of Rickmansworth, was awarded an OBE for services to the City of London Corporation and to charity.

An MBE was awarded to Alan Graham, of Bushey, for voluntary services, particularly to the Motor Neurone Disease Association.
