A “quiet, but determined councillor, who gave 100 per cent to everything she did” has been honoured with a memorial bench.

Sue Bartrick, Three Rivers District Councillor and Abbots Langley Parish Councillor, represented Leavesden for more than six years.

Councillor Bartrick, Liberal Democrat representative, was also vice chairwoman of the Three Rivers District leisure committee.

She passed away November 28, 2009, following a long battle with cancer.

Chairman of Abbots Langley Parish Council, Councillor Stephen Giles-Medhurst, unveiled a memorial bench at Lemonfield Play Area, Leavesden, in her honour on Friday.

It is a poignant place to position the memorial bench as, during her time as councillor, she had been instrumental in obtaining a joint funding project to refurbish the 50-year-old Lemonfield play area with new equipment.

It was finished just before she died.

Councillor Giles-Medhurst, her husband and also a Leavesden councillor, was joined by their children, grandchildren, first great grandchild, other councillors and residents in unveiling the bench.

Liberal Democrat representative, Councillor Giles-Medhurst said: "I believe its important to recognise the contribution that Sue made to local residents.

"It’s fitting that Abbots Langley Parish Council should dedicate a bench in the very play area that Sue fought so for long to get refurbished.

“She would be so pleased that it is now a well used local amenity for young children."

Ms Bartrick's family have also paid for a bench named in her honour in Leavesden Country Park - an area she particularly liked walking through.

Paying tribute to her friend, Ms Bartrick’s former parish and district council colleague, Councillor Sara Bedford, said: “Sue was a quiet but determined woman, who gave 100 per cent to everything she did.

“Her legacy lives on in the work that she did for the Lemonfield play area, Leavesden Country Park and the many road safety issues that she worked on.

“Sue was also a wonderful wife, mother and grandmother.

“Whilst she was a hard-working councillor, she was always there for her family and put them first.”
