A community action group has been saved from closure by the dedication and commitment of its members.

The future had looked bleak for the Woodside Community Action Group following the recent resignation of its chairman, secretary and several senior committee members.

A small group of local activists, however, stepped in at the eleventh hour to save the group and are now planning for the future.

Members and concerned residents met at the Church of the Nazarene, in The Brow, on August 3 and elected a new committee.

Chairman Angela Pratt said in her annual report that the group had, in spite of its difficulties, enjoyed tremendous success in recent months – most recently by hosting a hugely popular talent show that succeeded in bringing the community closer together.

She added: “We would like to see this working together continue for the whole area. As a result we have amended our constitution to cover other roads in Woodside so we can include all private home owners as well as Watford Community Housing Trust tenants and leaseholders. All are welcome to come and join in and make new friends."

Group secretary Geoff O'Connell appealed for new members to come forward and stressed the importance of forging links with other community groups in the area.

He said: “I think the association now has a good future but we need more people to join in and make it work.”

The next meeting of the Woodside Action Group will be held on Wednesday, September 28, at 7 30 pm at the Church of the Nazarene.
