The families of three young men who died in an horrific car crash have marked the second anniversary of the tragedy.
Eighteen-year-olds Jamal Campbell and Craig Charles, both of Neasden, died alongside 17-year-old Conrad Ryan when the Ford Puma they were travelling in hit a lamppost in the early hours of Friday, August 21 2009.
Jamie Burke, the 17-year-old driver of the car, was later jailed for three-and-a-half years for causing the boys’ deaths on Wiggenhall Road.
Family and friends, who last year erected a memorial bench near the scene of the accident, gathered on Sunday to erect a memorial plaque.
The small black headstone, which sits just outside Watford Grammar School for Girls, will serve as a constant reminder to passing motorists and, it is hoped, serve to warn others of the potential dangers of the road.
Lwyn Campbell, mother of Jamal, said: “It was a very emotional day for us because we were so close to where it happened. We also hope that it will remind motorists how dangerous the road can be. Even when we were there on Sunday cars were speeding by. I speed camera would be ideal but we have been told that three fatal accidents are needed before one will be installed.”
