Police investigating a fatal road traffic collision have released this shocking image, taken in the immediate aftermath of the crash.

Officers hope the picture will jog the memory of any witnesses who have yet to come forward.

Father-of-two Jason Crane, 40, died on the A41 Tylers Way on Saturday, July 16, when the van he was travelling in was hit by a silver Audi at about 1.20pm.

Three young men, who are believed to have been travelling in the Audi, fled the scene before emergency services arrived. They were last seen approaching the Elstree Road roundabout. All were wearing jeans.

Inspector Andy Piper, said: “Although arrests have been made, we are still looking for people who may have been involved in the collision and need further information from members of the public to help us in our investigations.

“The images reveal the devastation this collision caused, which resulted in a man losing his life and a family losing a loving father and husband. I am hoping that by releasing this image, anyone passing the scene either before or after the collision may remember witnessing something.”

“Did you see three young men walking along the road or maybe being picked up by another vehicle? I’d also be interested to hear from anyone who feels they may know the people who made off from the scene of the collision.”

Anyone with information is asked to call police on 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 444 111, where a £1,000 reward is on offer.
