The tenth annual Moor Park 10k foot race hosted more than 800 runners this weekend.

Particpants lined up on the 6.2 mile Stewarts Law Moor Park 10k and Junior Fun Runs on Sunday at Merchant Taylors’ School.

As well as the races, crowds of supporters were entertained by morris dancers and a local rally driving club which brought along a television for people to watch the Grand Prix.

This year the women's 10k race was won by 15-year-old Sky Draper, the first under 18 to win the event, with a time of 41.22.

The men's race was won for the third year in a row by Andrew Lawrence, in 34.09.

More than £280,000 has now been raised to support people affected by cancer. LJMC services include a drop-in centre, counselling and complementary therapies Early indications for a fundraising total look promising, with a single runner bringing in £6,500 alone.

Buzz Coster, LJMC marketing manager, said: “This year we had much better weather, the ice cream man actually made a profit as opposed to last year.

“We have been thrilled at the way the event has grown, the LJMC had never organised an event on this scale before and it has been tremendously exciting to watch it develop with the number of runners increasing each year.

“We had our runners which have run it every year, we must be doing something right, and they all had a good day out this year.”

The event is organised to raise money for the Lynda Jackson Macmillan Centre (LJMC) at Mount Vernon Cancer Centre.

All ages and abilities are welcome to take part, and everyone who takes part gets a medal.

There are also prizes for the top three in each age group and for the winning teams.
