Motorists and passers-by, who claimed to have spotted an abandoned "spaceship" on the edge of Leavesden Studios, have had their hopes dashed.

Watford Observer readers contacted the newspaper this week, claiming to have seen an unidentified grounded object, nestling in the bushes, in the outskirts of Leavesden Studios.

Questions were raised as to whether the “spacecraft” belonged to aliens or in fact was a prop from a film.

Father-of-two Andrew French, 40, said: “I regularly drive past the studios through to Watford.

“But it was a friend that told me about the ‘spaceship’ and said it looked like something that had been left behind by the makers of Star Wars.

“Being nosey, I had a look the next time I drove past, then circled around to have another look.

“It’s created a buzz among a few people.”

The object, which measures about 11 feet high and six feet wide, can be found close to Langley Lane.

Despite speculation as to what the unusual object is, Warner Bros. representatives have confirmed this afternoon that it is not a spaceship, nor has it been used as a prop in one of their films.

Stu Frith, Warner Bros. representative, said: “I must admit a spaceship at Leavesden would be most exciting, but unfortunately I must disappoint.

“In fact it is simply a machine that is used for taking aerial photos of the studios.”
