Pupils from a Watford primary school were given time off from lessons to attend the opening of a playground they helped to build.
The children, from Cherry Tree School, have been working with Watford Community Housing Trust and Sutcliffe Play to install the new playground at Foxhill, north Watford.
They have been involved from the very start, first helping to choose the equipment, and then donning hard hats to mark out the site when the work began in July.
On Thursday they returned to the site to see the finished playground for the very first time – and had a great time playing with the Housing Trust’s mascot, Trusty House.
The community play area is one of five bespoke playgrounds being built in Watford and Three Rivers through the Trust’s Better Communities Fund.
Chief Executive of Watford Community Housing Trust Tina Barnard said: "It was great to welcome the children back to the playground to see the fruits of their labour.
“They have been involved from the very beginning and were able to take real ownership of the playground.
“They should be very proud of what they have achieved, particularly when they see other children enjoying the playground they helped to create.”
The playgrounds form part of Watford Community Housing Trust’s plan to provide better play facilities for children and young people, working together with local residents.
