A man from Rickmansworth fell to his death from the sixth floor of Transport for London's headquarters in Greenwich.

The police were called to the building where Jack Shemtob worked, in Pier Walk, at 1.05pm on Friday November 4.

The 53-year-old was pronounced dead at the scene.

Friends of the father of two said that he was depressed and worried about money after being told he was to be made redundant, but TfL would not comment.

TfL spokesperson, Steve Taylor, said: “One of our colleagues tragically died at our Pier Walk building, our thoughts and sincere condolences are with his family, friends and colleagues.”

A cost-cutting programme reported widely in the national press details 3,000 redundancies having been made at TfL, and another 1,500 on the cards.

Mr Shemtob was a member of the Chorleywood Tennis Club for ten years, having served as membership secretary for three years.

A fellow club committee member, who asked to not be named, said: “Jack was a lovely, lovely guy, very popular at the club.

“He was the bar captain and whenever we had a disco or hog roast he was always the first one to volunteer to work behind the bar.

“He didn't play in many teams but he served the club by working behind the bar. There was a lot of people at his funeral, it was packed, it was eight people deep.”
