A North Watford pub has had its bid to be allowed to hold live music events and dancing thrown out.

Liberal Democrat and Labour councillors on Watford Borough Council's Licensing Sub Committee sided with concerned residents to block the application by the Tudor Arms this morning.

The application met opposition from people living nearby who complained they were already suffering noise pollution from the pub's karaoke nights.

The Tudor Arms, on Bushey Mill Lane, wanted its licence changed to allow live music and dancing from 10am to 11.30pm on Fridays and Saturdays.

The application, which was put in by the pub's parent company the Spirit Pub Company, also wanted to extend the hours booze could be served from 11pm to midnight Councillors deciding the application were presented with objections from people living nearby against the pub's plans.

One letter from Tudor Avenue resident Emma said: "I feel that if the application is approved it would cause a huge amount of disruption to my household and neighbouring properties.

"We already suffer when the Tudor has live music or a karaoke and literally have our walls banging from the noise. It causes massive disruption with my five children especially as their bedrooms are approximately six metres away from the building."

The council received a total of 12 letters protesting against the plans as well as a petition with 22 signatures.

In a report to the committee licensing officers said there was a recurring theme from residents' letters raising concerns about "public nuisance" coming from the pub.
