A COUPLE from Oxhey had two reasons to celebrate during the festive season, as this December marked their diamond wedding anniversary.

Alice and Colin Anson married on December 21, 1951 in Hendon.

They lived in Finchley, before moving to Harrow in 1957, and finally settled in Elm Avenue, Oxhey, in 1986.

Mr Anson, who will be 90 in February, managed his own small business, then ran a warehouse for a motor switch manufacturer, retiring in 1987.

Mrs Anson, 87, owned and ran a launderette in Harrow Weald, and in her spare time undertook voluntary work for charities including Gingerbread, Rape Crisis and Harrow Women's Centre.

A keen glider pilot, Mr Anson was a member of London Gliding Club, based in Dunstable, for many years, and was even elected to stand as president.

He part-owned a vintage glider, and the couple had many holidays travelling with their caravan to vintage gliding rallies all over Europe.

They have three children and seven grandchildren and celebrated the day with a family meal.
