Five per cent increase in crime in town

Crimes committed in December rose by 35 in Watford compared with the same month the previous year, latest figures reveal.

Anti-social behaviour, violent crime and theft were among the highest recorded in the town throughout the 31-day period, which saw a total of 688 crimes committed.

The figures were published on government website police.uk which features maps detailing the type and area of recorded crimes across the country.

The maps were first released in December 2010 but this morning an expanded version was published on what has become the most visited government website.

In Rickmansworth, the number of crimes across the town in December remained consistent with 2010, dropping by just four to 84.

Bushey saw a drop of 33 from 117 crimes recorded in December 2010 to 84 across the village in the same month 2011.

Going by the information recorded on the police.uk site, it looks very much like our burglary in October has been recorded as a shoplifting offence in December. Interesting way of recording events - not wholly reliant on accuracy to any degree as far as I can see - leaving the 'statistics' to becoming questionable as well of course.
