Many schools in the south west Hertfordshire area are opening today despite the area being hit by heavy snowfall over the weekend.

Some schools are holding later registration periods to encourage parents to take more time on the icy roads and to allow paths to be cleared on their grounds.

In Watford, Kingsway infants and primary schools in North Approach are leaving registration open until 10am as is Hartsbourne Primary in Bushey.

In Abbots Langley, Divine Saviour RC Primary School said registration would be open 9.30am to allowed for delayed travel.

A number of schools, including Newberries Primary in Radlett and St John's Catholic Primary in Mill End issued thanks via the Hertfordshire County Council website to groups of parents who came to help clear snow from the grounds yesterday.

According to the council’s website this morning the on Westfield Community Technology College is open but the Chessbrook Education Centre in Tolpits Lane is closed.
