Hospital trust to consider lower parking charges

Watford General Hospital has said it will consider calls to introduce a cheaper parking fee from politicians in the town.

Last week Watford Borough Council’s overview and scrutiny committee said it wanted to see a £2.50 for two hours fee brought in at the Vicarage Road site.

Currently the cheapest charge for visitors at the hospital is £4 for three hours.

Jan Filochowski, the chief executive of the West Hertfordshire Hospitals NHS Trust, said: "The Trust is grateful to the council’s Overview and Scrutiny Committee for their recommendations and is considering whether, and if so how, it can implement their recommendations."

The committee’s recommendation comes after it investigated parking charges at the hospital over the last couple of months.

Among some of the other changes the committee said it wanted brought in were for Watford General to provide more information on parking concessions, a pay on exit system and vouchers to be offered to drivers who parked for longer than their stay.

How do you park for longer than your stay? Is this for the people who walk home then realise they have left their car behind?!

It's about time. The parking fees are an absolute rip off - especially if you go to visit someone twice in a day. Also, most physio appointments are about 40 minutes, therefore a one hour charge should also be recommended. If you have an appointment, it should be a fixed fee of say £2.00 for however long you are. It's usually not your fault, but the clinics that you are there for hours.
