A cheque for £2,473, proceeds of a sponsored dog walk in Cassiobury Park, has been presented to the Royal British Legion in Croxley Green.

The money was raised by family and friends of Captain Tom Sawyer RA, killed in Afghanistan in January 2009, and Cpl Chris Harrison RM, killed in Afghanistan in May 2010, during the dog walk in November.

At the presentation event organised by Maurice Saunders, President of the Croxley Branch, and attended by many of those who were part of the walk, Maurice thanked Sue and Martyn Sawyer and Gill and Martin Harrison for their hard work and effort in helping to raise the "tremendous" amount of money.

He also thanked everyone who took part in, and contributed to, the dog walk.

After handing the cheque over to Sue Fenton, Poppy Appeal Organiser, both families agreed that Tom and Chris would have been delighted that their mutual love of dogs helped raise not only funds but also awareness of the Royal British Legion and its work.

It is hoped the dog walk will become an annual fundraising event in November for the Royal British Legion and other charities supporting Armed Forces in memory of Captain Sawyer and Cpl Harrison.
