People are being urged to be wary of Council Tax scams, after reports of tricksters posing as council officers.
This follows claims that residents in some parts of Hertfordshire have received fake Council Tax bills and been asked for payments on their doorsteps.
Councils have reminded residents to check whether any communications regarding Council Tax are genuine and that councils do not send staff door-to-door to collect payments.
Households with unpaid Council Tax bills will receive a reminder, then a court summons, and in some cases, a bailiff may call. The bailiffs will carry ID, so their identities can be verified.

There's no difference between being ripped off by a con-man or by the council. Both are effectively taking your money under false pretences, just wasting it in different ways. If I had my way, they'd both be put in jail for theft and get nothing. Chances are the con-man is not so greedy as the council and will not take as much money off you. Vote con-man!
