The man, believed to be in his forties, was taken ill during a match at Powerleague, in Queen’s School, Aldenham Road, at 7.50pm.

Paramedics rushed him to Watford General Hospital but it was confirmed this morning that he later died.

A Powerleague representative today said: “We at Powerleague are shocked and deeply saddened by this passing. Our thoughts and condolences go out to the family and friends at this terrible time. We would also like to commend our staff who helped the paramedics crew on the night.”

But who was he? Surely it can't be a state secret?

Don't local newspapers endeavour to find out these things any more? In my day no local paper would ever have run a story like this without giving the person's name!

I know who he was Roy, and not sure why it isn't reported. But obviously I won't say in case it is a deliberate thing. I WILL say I quaffed many a lager with him over 15 or so years, and we put the world to rights a thousand times. He was a hard worker, intelligent and not without a sense of mischeivious humour. He loved his family very, very much.
He will be sorely missed by all who knew him.
