A 99-year-old who will celebrate his milestone birthday on Tuesday visited St Martin's School in Northwood to give a talk on his life.
George Povey attended an assembly at the school, comparing life in 1912 and 2012, followed by questions and answers.
He included anecdotes about torpedoed ships and the day that he was taken as a prisoner of war during World War Two.
Year six student Sam Phillips said: “Before today I thought that the stories of the war were exaggerated in books. It was interesting to discover how real they actually were.”
At the end of the assembly the boys thanked Mr Povey with a gift of a scarf and a hat. He presented them with a 1912 copy of The Times.
