Kings Langley Parish Council is hoping the village will be crowned “Village of the Year 2012”.
The council is entering Kings Langley in the countywide competition and is seeking members of the community to help with its entry.
There are three awards available; separate awards for East, North and West Hertfordshire, one of which will be selected as Hertfordshire Village of the Year, Environment winner and Community winner.
Kings Langley won village of the year in 1997.
In order to rejuvenate the appearance of the village, the parish council is offering hanging baskets to shops in the High Street, on the provision that they water the plants.
Further plant-filled troughs are also planned to be installed along the hitching rail in the High Street.
Deadline for submissions for the competition is May 3, and judges will visit Kings Langley between May 28 and June 1.
Anyone wishing to contribute to the entry or to request hanging baskets is asked to call organiser Derek Rogers: 01923 268 108
