Watford commuters can look forward to a larger number of faster trains to take them into London.

The Department for Transport announced today that 40 new carriages will be brought in by 2013.

This will not only increase capacity, but will also reduce journey times as the newer trains will have a higher maximum speed.

MP for Watford Richard Harrington had been in discussion with the company to look at the ways in which trains could be less overcrowded and faster.

He said: "This announcement is good news for rail users in Watford and will make a real difference to people’s daily commutes.

"This is an exciting and important time for rail services in Watford with the Croxley Rail Link and I am pleased that it is this Government investing more than any other in improving local transport."

Rail Minister, Theresa Villiers added: "This is great news for passengers who will get faster, longer trains and more seats.

"These new trains will also run faster, which means extra train slots will come free, so that London Midland can fit more services into the timetable."
