A father-of-five from Bushey was given the honour of taking part in an exclusive photography workshop with Olympic legend Daley Thompson.

Andy Wilkes, 40, is just one of a hundred people from across the UK taking part in the BT Storytellers campaign to record the story of the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games.

Launched in March 2010 by Dame Kelly Holmes, the BT Storytellers are from every region of the UK and comprise bloggers, social networkers, artists, writers, poets, graphic designers, film-makers, photographers, and musicians.

Individuals submitted their applications which included links to their work, their background story, and what they thought they could add to the BT Storytellers project.

Mr Wilkes, who works on the Olympic Park, created a photo blog which is capturing the development of the Olympic Park over the years.

He discovered he had made it through the two round process to the final hundred, following an announcement in July 2011 by Daley Thompson and Lord Seb Coe.

On March 20, Mr Wilkes, a keen photographer, spent the morning learning from internationally renowned photographic artist and BT Art of Sport representative, Richard Booth.

The workshop focused on movement in sports photography and Mr Wilkes later got the chance to put into practice what he had learnt whilst Daley Thompson hosted a training session.

Best known for winning Olympic Gold in Decathlon in 1980 and 1984, Daley Thompson is considered to be the greatest decathlete of all time with four world records, two Olympic gold medals, three Commonwealth titles, and wins in the World and European Championships to his name.

Mr Wilkes said of the experience: "It was a very enjoyable day.

"Richard’s insights and tips were fantastic and I’ll certainly put them into practise.

"Daley was cool, he’s very amusing and has a dry sense of humour, he was very accommodating to our photographic requests.

"It’s fantastic that I got this opportunity as a BT Storyteller."
