Matt Shute raised more than £6,000 for the Lynda Jackson Macmillan Centre in Northwood by running the London Marathon.
He decided to run for the centre, which is based in the Mount Vernon hospital, at the Moor Park 10k in September last year.
He took training as seriously as fundraising and managed to get round just under the four hour mark, in 3:59:15.
He said: "The last six miles were agony. I reminded myself of the mantra, pain is temporary, quitting is forever."
