Millwall striker Darius Henderson has been committed to crown court accused of breaking a man's jaw early on New Year's Day.

Henderson, 30, a former Watford FC footballer, is accused of hitting a 41-year-old man at Darcy's restaurant in St Albans.

The footballer, who lives in Markyate, made a brief appearance at Central Herts Magistrates Court today where his case was committed to St Albans crown court for a plea hearing on 11 June.

Born in Sutton, he began his career with a five-year spell at Reading, making his debut in 1999 and moving to Gillingham in 2004.

Following a brief spell with the Gills which included a month-long loan spell at Swindon, Henderson moved to Vicarage Road in August 2005 in a £450,000 deal.

During a successful three-year spell with the Hornets he made 105 league appearances, scoring 29 goals.

Henderson capped off a fine first season with a penalty in the 3-0 Championship play-off final win over Leeds United to send Watford into the Premier League.

Two seasons later, having dropped back down to the Championship with the Hornets, Henderson switched to Sheffield United for £2m.

Henderson became the Blades’ key marksman for the first two seasons but after a serious leg injury kept him out of action he found his opportunities limited and, following relegation to League One, he signed for Millwall in June 2011.
