A Canadian serviceman stationed at NATO'S Northwood Headquarters aims to raise cash for two local charities by playing 72 holes of continuous golf at Moor Park on Friday, June 1.

Petty Officer 1st Class, Gilles LeBlanc, of the Royal Canadian Navy will take on the golf challenge to raise cash for Lynda Jackson Macmillan Centre at Mount Vernon Hospital and the Peace Children’s Centre in Watford.

PO1 LeBlanc is asking sponsors for 50p per hole but said: "Any amount someone is willing to contribute is greatly appreciated and will go towards helping these amazing organisations." It is the second time he will have tackled a golf endurance challenge. In 2011 his three continuous games raised more than £800 for the two charities. This year, he has set his sights higher by playing an additional 18 holes and aiming to raise a minimum of £1,000.

PO1 LeBlanc has led fundraising initiatives among his friends and work colleague at many previous postings within Canada.

He is committed to do the same for the benefit of his "adopted" home here in the UK, where he is currently deployed and is combining his love of golf to that end. Colleagues at NATO, new friends in the UK as well as family and friends in Canada are already sponsoring him but he is keen to see the local community involved too.

NATO has been a fundraising partner for two the Lynda Jackson Macmillan Centre and the Peace Children’s Centrefor a number of years.
