Firefighters were called to Mill End after the engine of a car caught fire this morning.

Crews from Rickmansworth Fire Station attended the red Mazda in Uxbridge Road, near the BP Garage by the junction with Church Lane, at around 7pm.

Firefighter Ian Gregory said all the occupants of the car had got out safely and there was smoke coming from the engine compartment when they arrived.

He said: “There was plenty of smoke and someone had tried to put it out with a foam extinguisher.

“The whole engine was on fire.”

The blaze was extinguished with a hose reel and fire crews were at the incident for around half an hour.
