A six mile fundraising run through Moor Park has attracted a record number of entries this year, including 40 from a local secondary school.

Entries have been flooding in for this year’s Moor Park 10k and Junior Fun Runs, which is organised by the Lynda Jackson Macmillan Centre based at Mount Vernon Hospital.

Since the event was first organised in 2002, a number of boys from Northwood Prep School have taken part in the Fun Runs but this year’s field is a record entry for the school.

One of the parents, Ansu Shah, is responsible for the team, having taken up running last year and entering the Moor Park 10k in September.

He said: "Initially, I wanted to encourage the boys to take part but I’ve heard from so many parents who also want to run.

"We’re certainly going to be challenging for those team trophies this year."

The school's director of sport, Dominic Todd, was also delighted at the response, having worked hard to increase the level of interest in running at the school.

He said: "The Moor Park 10k goes straight past our front door so I’m really pleased to see so many people get behind Ansu, wanting to take part.

"The event has got a great reputation locally and I’m really proud of everyone for their response."

As well as the school's runners, a record number of people have already entered the race, twice as many as at this time last year.

The Moor Park 10k is the LMJC's largest annual fundraising event, raising more than £52,000 last year.

The course is traffic free, starting in Merchant Taylors’ School, before passing through the Moor Park estate and over Rickmansworth and Moor Park Golf Courses.

Sponsored by Stewarts Law LLP, this year’s Moor Park 10k and Junior Fun Runs will be held on Sunday September 30.
