By Adam Binnie, Senior Reporter
A charity which funds research into muscular dystrophy was presented with a cake to help launch its new campaign.
The Muscular Dystrophy Campaign’s "Make Every Birthday Count" day encourages people to mark the charity's birthday this weekend with a fundraising event.
It hopes the weekend will bring in £12,000 for the charity's research.
The custom-made, 12-inch cake, decorated with the charity’s iconic orange and blue kite logo, was donated by Wenzel’s bakery at 11.30am on Tuesday.
Muscular dystrophy and related conditions cause muscles to weaken and waste over time, leading to increasing disability.
More than 70,000 children and adults in the UK have muscular dystrophy or a related condition. A further 350,000 people are affected indirectly as family, friends or carers.
