A Watford Borough councillor has been kicked out of the town’s Conservative Party for the second time in two years.

Malcolm Meerabux, who represents the Park ward, had his membership terminated by a vote of the Watford Conservative Association at on Monday night.

Councillor Meerabux has now been listed as an Independent on the Watford Borough Council website.

A statement from the Watford Conservative Association today said: “The executive council of Watford Conservative Association met last night. The motion before them was to expel Malcolm Meerabux from the Conservative party.

"Councillor Meerabux has the right to appeal this decision, so it would be inappropriate to comment further at this time.”

The move halves the Conservatives’ presence on the council with only Tory leader Steve Johnson remaining. The party was reduced to two seats in the May election.

In January last year Councillor Meerabux was removed from the Watford Conservation Association after a row over the letters he was writing to the Watford Observer.

However he was later allowed to rejoin the group.

Councillor Meerabux was elected to Park ward in 2010 with a 361 vote majority.
