The Hertsmere Volunteer Police Cadets (HVPC) are on the hunt for teenagers to join their ranks.

Anyone aged between 13 and 18 years, who has an interest in the police and enjoys outdoor activities and other challenges, is invited to apply.

All recruits must live in Hertsmere district which includes Bushey, Radlett, Potters Bar, Borehamwood, Elstree and Shenley.

The cadets will be taking part in summer camps, community events, fitness activities, and will learn about police procedures and the law. Specialist departments such as Air Support and the Dog Section give regular talks to the group.

The cadets meet every second Wednesday evening between 7pm and 9pm at Meryfield School in Theobald Street, Borehamwood.

Meetings cost £2 per session, with extra cost for camps and other activities - though these will be subsidised. To request an application form visit: www.hvpc.org.uk.

All applications should be handed in to Borehamwood police station by the end of August. Alternatively, they can be posted to PC 2849 Ross Paybody, at Borehamwood Police Station, Elstree Way, Borehamwood, Herts WD6 1JP.

Interviews will be held on Saturday, September 15 and successful applicants will start in October.

The group is run by local police officers, police community support officers and community safety representatives. Funding for the group is being provided by Hertfordshire Constabulary and Hertsmere Borough Council.
