A new community group has been founded in Watford to represent the town’s Filipino community.

The Watford Filipino Community Association was established on Saturday with the stated aim of "promoting camaraderie and active participation" among the town’s Filipino residents.

At the inaugural event, held in Holyrood Church, Jonathan Agustin was elected president and James Van Gabayno as vice president.

The association has been formed from other various Filipino associations which have been in Watford since around 2001.

Ferdinand Esteban, the group’s public information officer, said: "After the proclamation of winners, Jonathan and James, president elect and vice president elect, respectively opened the floor for group discussion and suggestions.

"Several events and activities will be announced once all the details are ready."
