Watford MP Richard Harrington appeals for your Big Idea
As the MP for Watford Richard Harrington says he is constantly being told what is wrong with the town.
Now he is calling his constituents to come up with an idea that will improve the lives of people in Watford.
The Watford’s Big Idea Scheme, which the MP is running in conjunction with Watford Observer and Watford Chamber of Commerce , is residents’ chance to put forward their ideas for the town.
Around 40 submissions have already been made to the scheme suggesting a range of ideas from transport changes to new cultural events for Watford.
However Mr Harrington has said he wants as many people as possible to enter as it is the residents of the town who know best what can be done to make it a better place.
He said: "I am fed up with people moaning about Watford being a second-rate town, when it’s not."
"This idea has got to be one thing we can all focus on to make a difference to the people of Watford.
"It has got to be something feasible we can make real, so something like an underground metro system in Watford maybe a bit unrealistic."
The winner of Big Idea scheme will work with Mr Harrington to turn their idea into a reality.
The scheme also comes with a £1,000 prize for the winning idea and the runners up will receive £500 and £250.
Mr Harrington said the idea could be big or small, and the only theme is it had to improve the lives of people in the town.
He added: "We could take an existing building that is derelict and make it into something that would really put Watford on the map "In Hemel they have big sports facilities such as the indoor ski centre."
The final deadline for application is September 14.
