Watford roads closed for traveller funeral

Roads were closed in Watford today for the funeral procession of a traveller.

Mildred Avenue and Durban Road West were partially closed off as mourners made their way to North Watford Cemetery.

Hertfordshire Constabulary said it was also aware that travellers have currently occupied land off Radlett Road and that this is connected with the funeral.

What sort of society are we now living in when police can close off roads, inconveniencing residents and others, for the funeral procession of a traveller? Would they do it for anyone else?

Do the ethnic minority groups now run this country as a politically correct neo-fascist/communis
t/totalitarian society? Are the police terrified of upsetting the minorities for fear of being accused of race prejudice?

Answers on a postcard, please.....!

Didn't know that are road was closed off, that is stupid. Though do know about they've invaded Radlett Road playing fields. I've counted six vans already & the council said they been gone by Sat. Do hope so and hope there be no waste rubbished left behind too like last time.

Thats OK then , fancy a couple of days camped in a park in Watford, just say you'll be gone in a couple of days and they'll say OK and leave you alone. This Council is joke.

No, the whole country is a joke when we accept that minority groups now seem to dominate the agenda and our society.

Careful now we don't want infringe their Human rights do we? I'm sure the council tax payers will gladly pay to clear all the crud left behind on Radlett Road afterwards. We have Travellers living on our road and they are treating it like a rubbish tip! It was a nice place to live but some people like to live in a DUMP!

Roy Stockdill says...

Well, of course, no-one would wish to infringe the human rights of travellers, would they?

They have human rights stretching way beyond the rest of us! And, unfortunately, the powers-that-be, which very much includes the police, are so terrified of being accused of racism etc that they are cowed into going along with it.

I find the whole thing beyond belief. What sort of people are ruling us?

It isn't so much that Roy. Travellers have played the system forever.
Try to prosecute one and they will claim to have 56 witnesses saying they were in Scotland at the time.
These witnesses must be interviewed or the defence team will claim the case has not been handled correctly, and vital evidence not submitted.

Of those 56, 6 don't even exist, 20 can't be found and 20 won't turn up in court on the day, meaning an adjournment.

In short, the taxpayer spends ten times as much attempting to prosecute a traveller for, say, fly tipping, than just clearing up and having done with it.

No, Roy, in answer to your question the ethnic minority groups do not now run this country as a politically correct neo-fascist/communis
t/totalitarian society.

Hope that helps.

Actually, it doesn't help at all because you don't explain your point.

The government and official bodies, which very much includes the police, appear to be terrified of upsetting minority groups of any colour or sexual persuasion, so they lean over backwards to show them excessive favouritism, never mind the fact that it may inconvenience the rest of us.

This country is now run by rampant political correctness.

Would the police have closed off roads for your funeral or anyone else's. So why do it for a traveller?

I remember attending my friends funeral many years ago and because of the many people travelling from the church to the cemetery, the police cordoned off certain road junctions, to maybe stop any potential aggravation or road rage incidents and I can assure you I am not from a minority or traveller group. So get over it!

This Saturday evening and the six caravans / travellers are still located on Radlett Road playing fields - typical.

Though if so many turned up to a flipping funeral, where are the rest of them parked or have invaded another field, park etc?

Live near Radlett Road. Now we know why my neighbour had a bike stolen from the garage last weekend. No burglaries or thefts in our road for years that I've heard of.

Why is it the Police are scared to deal with them? Don't tell me they're not because I have first hand experience of just how reluctant they are to confront them even when they know a crime has been committed by one of them! Just what is it that scares the Police so much?

Boosey get over it!!! How dare you? I've worked hard all my life and take nothing and have never claimed benefits so I just pay up. And the reward? People who work on the black economy being treated like royalty. I agree with Roy and the other commentators. Boosey you are wrong.

I have also worked hard all my life and never claimed benefits, but where does it state, that these travellers claim benefits? All your hard work has surely given you a lovely home and family and when you want some renovations on your lovely house, I am sure you will go through the correct channels and pay top dollar, rather than cash in hand, to save you money. (I don't think so) Boosey is correct, LOL!

P.S. The next thing you will be telling me is, you have never got anything of the back of a lorry. How dare I even suggest you would!

Travellers dont contribute to society whatsoever. They dont pay taxes in any shape or form and they dont pay national insurance. They use schools, the NHS and the police spend a great deal of their time 'dealing' with travellers. So before they even start stealing, fighting or treating our parks like caravan sites they v already cost us thousands.

And when i say 'dealing' with, i actually mean ' keeping their distance, watching but not actually doing anything'.

On the whole, the travellers in this area are an anti social burden on our community.

They site up the A41, behind the Ramada hotel, are a nightmare. Every week they shoot out most of the windows of one side of the hotel, they lead their horses, without permission, onto the hotels grass to graze, they dump rubbish set fire to it round the back, they come into the hotel bar and cause problems, etc etc Not one of them has ever been arrested for any of that, not one pound of damages has ever been paid by them. But the police have always been told and cctv footage has usually been available. So why has nothing ever been done???

I agree that travellers are often their own worst enemy when it comes to how the rest of the population view them. I also agree that some even many are worthy of that reputation.

However this is a funeral and as Boosey said it is not unknown for roads to be closed off for such events regardless of the deceased persons heritage and quite frankly I find it disgusting - Roy i'm looking at you for starting this - a funeral should used as a forum to attack others. Totally in appropriate and shame on you all

So it seems they've lied to the council as should of gone on Sat, but that's no surprise is it. They've got out of control dogs running around the park, as had to pick up my dog for safety. And have notice that extra vehicles have appeared. Council have tried to cut the grass this morning, but that's not been completed.

Saying that it seems they're setting up camp then considering on moving on. So wonder what the council is planning next?

The fact that some travellers have stuck around longer than 'promised' is parr for the course if we are to go down the popularist and possibly accurate route. Its also relevant to the actual event.

A general attack started by Roy on travellers was however innapropriate considering this was a story about a funeral and not only totally lack decency but was probably started to cater for Roy's need for attention. For all their actual faults this attack shows people up as being no better than the travellers they are complaining about.

Sycophantic claptrap Tony. Stop trying to defend what you know is wrong in an effort to look as though you care.

I agree with previous posts - these people live like parasites off those who work and pay taxes, then expect sympathy when one of them dies. Well boo hoo, everyone loses someone at some time in their life and they don't expect roads to be closed off for their funerals! To quote someone earlier, get over it!!!
