A Northwood 10km foot race has seen a boost in the number of people wanting to take part since the start of the Olympic Games.

More than 300 runners have now signed up to take part in the Moor Park 10k, a big increase on the number this time last year.

The run is now in its 11th year of raising money for the Lynda Jackson Macmillan Centre, the support and information service at Mount Vernon Cancer Centre.

Buzz Coster, one of the organisers, said: "The success of Britain’s Mo Farah in the 10,000m on Saturday may have had something to do with generating enthusiasm for the local race.

"Young runners are also signing up to take part in the junior fun runs and that’s really great to see as well. The Olympic legacy we all hoped for has started already."

Ms Coster was in the Olympic stadium to witness Mo Farah’s race, as well as the gold medal performances by Jessica Ennis and Greg Rutherford.

She said: "It was an amazing evening. We were unbelievably lucky to get tickets at all and it has really inspired me to work harder than ever to make our own 10k event as successful as possible this year.

"Watching the runners over the whole distance heightened my admiration for the athletes and I will have more respect than ever for our runners this year."

The event takes place on Sunday, September 30, with the junior events starting at 12 noon and the 10k starting at 3pm.

The route starts and ends in the playing fields of Merchant Taylors’ School but the middle part of the race takes place in the private estate and over Rickmansworth and Moor Park Golf Courses.

There is no qualifying time and everyone who finishes gets a medal. Young people can also represent their school.
